Last Saturday, I traded my three inch heels and donned my cowboy boots for the 2009 Cattle Baron’s Ball. Believe it or not, most of the Texas crew I hang with only wear boots for these kinds of occasions.
The night started at City Bank with a pre-party. From there, it was time to board the bus and head out to the V8 Ranch. The night couldn’t have been more beautiful. I was even able to enjoy it more thoroughly thanks to OFF spray. I made a lot of new friends when they saw me with that bottle.
There were so many different activities my boyfriend and I didn’t even know where to begin. Well, that’s a little bit of a lie. Of course, we hit up the food area first. Homemade tamales, fish tacos, brisket, french fries and rice. That was just the first round. The food was amazing!
Navigating to our table with our food was the real trick. I saw someone I knew every five to ten steps. It was so much fun catching up with old friends from NewsChannel 11 and other business acquaintances.
Don’t worry! We worked off all that food when Richie McDonald hit the stage. I have met Richie a couple of times since I am a DJ for 99.5 The Bear. He is not only an incredible musician, but also a really humble person. Richie shared lots of memories about growing up in Lubbock. Then it was time to boogey to Element, a local funk band. I certainly did dance the night away.
The best part about attending the ball was knowing I had something to do with the money that was raised. The Cattle Baron’s Ball has been the primary fundraiser for the Lubbock Unit of the American Cancer Society since 1983. To date, the ball has raised more than $5 million in the fight against cancer.
This year, The Price Group had the opportunity to create the logo and invitations as well as the TV, radio and newspaper spots. I personally handled the publicity. Bronson and Elise Blodgett, the co-chairs of the 2009 Cattle Baron’s Ball, were extremely pleased with the amount of coverage the event received.
This event also had personal significance in my life. Both of my grandmothers lost their lives to cancer. It is so important we continue to raise money to find a cure.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend Cattle Baron’s Ball, start saving your money so you can attend. Plus, it will give you a chance to wear those cowboy boots sitting at the back of your closet.
